For the 12th consecutive year, the Community Leadership Center and LEAP Academy Charter School hosted their annual Rutgers/LEAP fundraising Gala to raise money for the Alfredo Santiago Endowed Scholarship Fund.

On Friday, December 2nd, over 250 members of the Rutgers/LEAP community (including Chancellor Wendell Pritchett) and regional stakeholders joined LEAP students and parents at The Mansion in Voorhees, NJ, where they enjoyed a night of dinner, dancing, and a celebration of LEAP alumni at Rutgers.

Several distinguished guests were in attendance to recognize this year’s Gala Honorees:
José E. Fernández Bjerg, Omega Enterprises, Inc;
Angelo J. Genova, Genova, Burns & Giantomasi;
Hernán Guaracao, AL DÍA;
J. Michael Schweder, AT&T; and
Alan F. Stein, Rotary International.
All five honorees received the 2011 Rutgers/LEAP Leadership Award for their continued support of LEAP, Rutgers, and the residents of Camden City.

This year’s Gala fundraised over $100,000 for the Alfredo Santiago Scholarship, which supports the financial need of LEAP Academy graduates who go on to attend Rutgers University. Twenty-five LEAP alumni were among the guests at the gala, including 10 scholarship recipients who graduated LEAP in 2011 and now attend Rutgers–Camden.

Even though this year’s gala is over, the scholarship is still accepting holiday donations. To learn how you can contribute, please contact Aaron Cohen at aaron.cohen@rutgers.edu or (856) 225-2922.
