YES (Young Educated Scholars) Institute

The Young Educated Scholars Tutoring Afterschool Program, better known as YES! Tutoring for its positive take on academic support services, is a University-based program   housed within the Community Leadership Center, at Rutgers-Camden.  It offers academic tutoring to students in grades 3-11.  The Program works with LEAP Academy students as part of the school’s academic support strategy.

At YES!, we believe that qualified instructors are a critical force in student achievement; that parents are an essential component of their child’s educational process; and, that learning should be engaging and motivating for every student.

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • Learning should not only be engaging and motivating, but fun and relevant. That is why we offer extensive, and intensive, tutoring sessions in both Math and Language Arts, for grades 3rd-11th. ATTN.: We are pleased to announce that sessions for specific areas in Science will be also be held for grades 9th-11th, during the new season that is about to start.
  • As part of our unique and engaging tailored curriculum, we also offer sessions on Saturdays during the mornings, aside from the afterschool individual and small group sessions offered M-Th.
  • Our sessions are held by an excellent and highly qualified team of individuals that are not only prepared to challenge and engage, but who are deeply committed to help students develop skills like time management and how to process information effectively, so that they can continue to advance academically.
  • Since we also believe in engagement and involvement of the community, not only we provide a variety of incentives to reward students who attend regularly, complete their work on time and show adequate improvement; but, we also actively communicate with parents, to encourage them to allow their children to participate from the program, as well to inquire about their progress.

Eligibility

Since we believe that qualified instructors are a major factor in student achievement, we depend on the high motivation of our staff to help expose our students to rigorous development in Math and Language Arts; as well as how to engage with technology productively, so that the individual and small group interventions taking place in the classroom can facilitate the comprehension of the provided material.

Above all, we value rigor, commitment and experience. Individuals interested in working with us, should be aware that our top priority is the success of our students and, as such, we want to make sure that their instruction is one of the highest quality, as well as adapting it to the unique urban setting our community boasts.

For such purposes we are looking forward to receiving applications, until November 1st, 2015.
