Dr. Gloria Bonilla-Santiago and members of the LEAP community presented two checks totaling $16,077.65 to Honorable Sila Calderon, former Governor of Puerto Rico and Founder and President of the Centro para Puerto Rico be applied to support families throughout the island who lost their residences and small businesses as a result of Hurricane Maria. The checks represent contributions from the Rutgers Camden Community Leadership Center in the amount of $12,460.98 and from the LEAP Academy School Community in the amount of $ 3,616.67. Hurricane Maria delivered a catastrophic blow to the Island of Puerto Rico. Our Rutgers CLC and the LEAP community have been deeply affected by what Puerto Rico is going through. Many of our LEAP families have relatives in Puerto Rico who lost everything and have been affected. We are committed to the rebuilding of Puerto Rico and trust that our Puerto Rican brothers and sisters have the resilience and fortitude to make this happen.
