The Rutgers-Camden Community Leadership Center (CLC) has had the privilege of hosting two distinguished scholars from the Faculty of Latin American Social Sciences (FLACSO) from the University of Havana as U.S. Department of State J-1 Visa Professor and Research Scholars.  Dr. Reynaldo Jimenez Guethon and Dr. Maria del Carmen Zabala have been conducting research at the CLC for a month on comparative systems of community development research and practice between Cuba and Camden.  Their visit coincided with the Conference on the Future Directions for a New Cuba: Building Sustainable Partnerships, from November 6-10.  They presented a workshop on “Cuban Perspectives on Community Development: Building Integrated Approaches to Education, Local Development and Social Equity” and met with Rutgers-Camden faculty in roundtable discussions to explore further collaborative research proposals between the two universities.  Rutgers-Camden and the University of Havana have a longstanding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to conduct academic exchanges around five major areas: (1) Community Development and Entrepreneurship, (2) STEM Fields including Computational and Environmental Science, (3) Arts and Humanities, (4) Population Health, and (5) Law.
